Abstract

Lichen amyloidosus is a chronic recalcitrant condition for which there is no effective therapy. Five patients are described with lichen amyloidosus who were treated with the synthetic aromatic retinoid, etretinate. In all patients cutaneous lesions improved but therapy was limited by associated hyperlipidaemia and xeroderma. The histopathological findings and pathogenesis are discussed.
