Abstract

Since the term Media Literacy introduced to Turkish education system at early 2000s, course content, general qualifications of teachers, appropriate grade levels has become the hot topics of Media Literacy education in Turkey. It is essential to understand teachers who are responsible to give media literacy courses at schools although they do not take any media literacy Education themselves. The aim of this research is to figure out who can teach media literacy at schools, what qualifications are needed to teach media literacy, what will be included in the curriculum and at what level should the media literacy course be given according to teacher candidates by utilizing the survey method. The sample of the study included 480 teacher candidates in the Education Faculty at the Dumlupinar University. The analysis of the research is included of percentage (%), frequency (f), t test, X2 and ANOVA. The results of the study showed that teacher candidates believe in the importance of media literacy courses, and think that media literacy courses should be given at more than one level.
