Abstract

The definite etiology and pathogenesis of axillary osmidrosis have not been elucidated yet.ApoD may be the key protein involved in the molecular pathogenesis of axillary osmidrosis.Latest studies have shown that (E)-3-methyl-2-hexenoic acid, which is secreted by apocrine sweat gland and is considered to be the principal axillary odor-related compound,is translocated to the surface of skin with Apo-D as the carrier. The development of axillary osmidrosis may be primarily attributed to the differences in Apo-D gene itself and variation in its regulatory factors.During the above process, the regulation by microorganisms, androgens and their receptors, may play an important role in the pathogenesis of axillary osmidrosis. In addition, the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the odor-related gene ABCC11 is probably the determinant factor for the development of axillary osmidrosis.
