Abstract

AbstractZiegler–Natta‐catalyzed linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was first commercialized in the late 1970s. Unlike low density polyethylene (LDPE) produced in the high pressure process, Ziegler–Natta LLDPE has no long‐chain branching and has a narrower molecular weight distribution. LLDPE offers improved mechanical properties relative to LDPE. Metallocene‐catalyzed LLDPE(mLLDPE) resins, commercialized in the 1990s, are more compositionally homogeneous than LLDPE and have narrower molecular weight distributions. mLLDPE resins offer improved toughness properties relative to LLDPE. LLDPE resins are used in film, injection molding, blow molding, rotational molding, tubing, and wire and cable coating applications.
