Abstract
The title compound, C13H13BrO4S, was prepared by the oxidation of ethyl 2-(5-bromo-3-methylsulfanyl-1-benzofuran-2-yl)acetate using 3-chloroperbenzoic acid. The O atom and methyl group of the methylsulfinyl substituent lie on opposite sides of the plane of the benzofuran moiety. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular π–π interactions [centroid-to-centroid separation = 3.592 (2) Å], as well as by C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
