Abstract

The influence of two plant growth regulators, Ethrel and Alar on the growth and se expression of cucumber were investigated in the green house The cucumber cultivar ”Taichung Chekwa” was growing under long day and natural day length. Concentrations were 100~240 ppm for Ethrel and were 2000, 3000 ppm for Alar They were sprayed once on foliage at 1(2/1) true leaf stage. The results were summarized as follows: Comparative effects of these regulators on plant growth were: Control showed the highest, combination of Ethrel and Alar showed the lowest. But on the stem diameter, combination of Ethrel and Alar were the largest than other treatments. Ethrel caused a strong tendency toward pistillate flower production and suppressed staminate flower initiation on treated-pants, and the pistillate flowers developed continuously on leaf axils at lower nodes Alar alone did not promote pistillate flower on treated-plants Alar combined with Ethrel increased pistillate flower and in some cases the were more than that of Ethrel treatment.
