Abstract

A 16-year-old man with painless swelling of his right upper eyelid and lateral displacement of the right eye had a smooth rubbery-feeling mass medial to the eye. Although the clinical and radiographic diagnosis was an ethmoid mucocele, histopathology revealed an ethmoid neurilemmoma. The presumed slow growth pattern of an ethmoid neurilemmoma enabled it to mimic very closely the presentation of an ethmoid mucocele. Awareness of the possibility of encountering an ethmoid neurilemmoma is important so that a surgeon may be prepared to control potential bleeding.
