Ethiopian Immigration to Israel

Abstract

ABSTRACT As a country ofingathered exiles, Israel has taken pride in its history of policies and structures designed to ease immigrant absorption. The recent waves of Ethiopian newcomers, however, have presented a range of unanticipated resettlement problems. This paper examines some of these issues, the attempts of the government to resolve them and the positive and negative outcomes of these resolutions. The underlying focus Is the preservation of ethnic integrity during the reacculturation process.
