Abstract
In September, 1964, Ethiopia's Haile Sellassie I University inaugurated a novel program to aid the country's development. The program, named the Ethiopian University Service (E.U.S.), called upon students to interrupt their university studies to serve their country for one year. The 1964-65 program included 134 university students serving primarily as teachers in the rural areas of Ethiopia. The program is now in its second year with 194 students serving.
