Abstract

Ethionine, the ethyl analog of methionine, is a hepatoearcinogen when administered chronically in the diet to rats (Farber 1963). Studies with radioactive ethionine revealed that tRNA was the most extensively labeled nucleic acid species after ethionine administration (Farber et al. 1967). Further studies in recent years have led to extremely interesting findings concerning the effect of ethionine on tRNA metabolism.
