Abstract

Psychotherapy with children is very different from treatment of adults in terms of both developmental and ethical issues. Nearly every case raises some degree of role conflict for the clinician and highlights significant differences in power relationships among the identified patient and other family members. The professional who attempts to negotiate therapeutic intervention for children and families must be sensitive to ethical subtleties and the relative vulnerabilities of all parties.
