Abstract
A survey of graduate schools of social work revealed that the predominant method for teaching ethical subject matter is through the pervasivelinfusion approach whereby ethical content is interwoven into the fabric of all or selected courses. Few programs use a discrete model in which professional ethical principles and decision making are the focus of a separate course. Analysis of syllabi of discrete ethics courses showed considerable variation in content and lack of systematic organization. Given the present concern with ethical issues in practice, there is serious question concerning the efficacy of current methods of instruction in preparing students for ethical practice.
