Abstract

Within health care the perceptions of those involved with, and accessing care, are now incorporated within the concept of quality care and are integral to maternity services where choice and empowerment are central components to care provision. Qualitative research, with its ability to explore values, beliefs and perceptions, has therefore gained increasing acceptance as a valid means to inform midwifery practice. However such research brings a myriad of ethical considerations and this paper examines the issues that researchers may face as they undertake a qualitative research study.
