Abstract
AbstractThe ether cleavage of the three isomeric 2,3‐(dimethoxycarbonyl)‐7‐oxabicyclo[2.2.1]‐heptanes with acetic anhydride under influence of BF3 etherate or FeCl3 has been studied. A complex mixture of products was obtained, resulting from elimination, migration and substitution reactions. The results are interpreted in terms of reactions occurring via an acyloxonium ion and not via a ringopened carbenium ion intermediate.
