ETHANOLAMINE OLEATE AS A PROPOSED TREATMENT FOR REGRESSION OF VASCULAR LESION IN THE LABIAL MUCOSA REGION: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

Monoethanolamine oleate is a salt produced by the combination of oleic ethanolamine with consolidated hemostatic properties. The drug initially acts by irritation in the endothelial lining of the vessel, producing an inflammatory reaction and causing the fibrosis of the vessel wall and the obstruction of the blood vessels, being used for the treatment of sclerosis of vascular lesions in oral cavity. A 24-year-old leucoderm male patient attended at a clinical school of dentistry complaining of a purple spot on the lip. The oral examination revealed the presence of a papule with a smooth surface and a violet color on the lower lip; after vitropression the lesion disappeared completely. The diagnostic hypothesis was hemangioma, but the final diagnosis was varicosity, with no need to perform other complementary examinations. The proposed treatment was the use of sclerotherapy with intralesional injection of 5% monoethanolamine oleate.
