Abstract
Four strains of Zymomonas mobilis were compared for ethanol production from enzymatically hydrolysed cassava starch. Strain NRRL B-4286 performed efficiently, producing 80 g/litre ethanol from 171 g/litre initial sugar concentration. Addition of yeast extract, calcium pantothenate, ammonium sulphate or magnesium sulphate did not significantly increase ethanol production by this strain.
