Abstract

The object of the research is A. Volos' concept of history in his novel «Maskavskaya Mekka». The dystopia suggests the Russian national character as the reason for all social and political catastrophes that befell Russia and the USSR in the XXth cen-tury. This is shown by analyzing the main aspects of the content of the book, including spatial and temporal features of its world, the crucial points of the plot, portrayals of the characters, their remarks and thoughts. Humunistitcheskiy Krai as shown by A. Volos is a mythologeme that develops the Soviet dissident tradition in literature which is represented by V. Aksenov's «The Crimea Island», V. Voinovitch's «Monumental propaganda», A. Gladilin's «FSSR. The French Soviet Socialist Republic». The plot of «Maskavs-kaya Mekka» has an element of mysticism and fantasy which makes the mythological nature of Humunistitcheskiy Krai more evi-dent. Humunistitcheskiy Krai is a universal mythologeme of the Soviet past doomed to be repeated in future.
