Abstract

A quantitative analysis of solutions of formaldehyde in acetic acid has been performed for various concentrations of formaldehyde, sulfuric acid and water, by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. In such solutions formaldehyde exists as trioxane and diacetates of methyleneglycol and polyoxymethyleneglycols. These forms of formaldehyde are in equilibria which are discussed.
