Abstract

Seen in the context of the disenchantment of the world in Modern Times, Peter Huchel (1903-1981) develops a poetic model in which the intellectual reconstruction of the world answers the wish for harmony and an appropriate world order. This is achieved by an enhanced imagination and magical appeal without dissolving the disharmony which is an integral part of this contemporary poet. The blurred line between these two opposing worlds as well as the link between traditional devices and avant-garde techniques serve as a reflection on the possibilities of poetry in dangerous times and can be seen as an exemple of the subversive potential of a way of writing which is full of magic.
