Abstract
This book examines the theme of death in the major European pastoral novels of Spain, Italy, Portugal, France and England. Through careful textual analysis, the authors show that the themes of love and death are inseparable in European literature, and that violence and death are intrinsic to the psychological landscape of pastoral.
