Abstract

This study analyzes the media and health observatories in Brazil, to identify how these instances are configured and intersect. From these experiences, it proposes a reflection on the concepts of social control and citizenship, and identify what these observatories are articulating as a form of social intervention. This research is part of the research in the visiting researcher stage in the Observatory Health in the Media Icict, Fiocruz, which aims to deepen and qualify the theoretical discussion of observatories and contribute to the debate on social control, media and health in society . Data on observatories were mostly extracted from the data bases, the main space activities of these bodies. To perform the search were defined the following key words: Media Observatory, Observatory of Health, critical media, social control, citizenship, popular participation, and the results were coded on a table with basic data from observatories. One of the conclusions that this study reached is that the media and health observatories are fruitful areas for construction, the promotion and dissemination of knowledge.
