Abstract

The author has developed a mathematical-numerical model for simulation of 4-high rolling mills. With this computer model it is possible to calculate the strip profile, the rolling loads and contact loads between the rolls and the flatness quality of the strip rolled. It is shown that depending on the form of grinding the roll, load peaks may appear on the edges of the rolls that can produce unexpected wear and strips out of customer’s specification. These rolls can break, causing financial prejudice for the industry. It is studied, also, the effects on these load peaks when the rolls were chamfered.
