Abstract

The paracetamol is a drug of analgesic and antipyretic action, obtained through the metabolism of phenacetin, a painkiller derived from tar. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandin in the brain, reducing fever and inducing the analgesia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible physical and chemical changes of the solution of paracetamol distributed by the Sistema Unico de Saude (SUS) through the accelerated stability study. Each sample was stored in different environmental conditions and was analysed in the initial moment, after 60 days and after 90 days. The samples were analysed according to Farmacopeia Brasileira 4th edition in respect of requirements, pH and determination. Through the study it was possible to verify that spectrophotometric in UV is not recommended for studies of thermal stability of solution of paracetamol, for interference from its degradation product.
