Abstract

Paraguay produces a large amount of organic and inorganic waste that ends up in open landfills. At the Polytechnic Faculty of the National University of Asuncion, a collection of material has been carried out that can be used for environmental education using informative posters. More polyethylene terephthalate “PET” was collected based on the classification of plastics. This seeks to recognize the importance of recycling and separating waste focused on improving social development and the quality of life of the community. Collection points distributed throughout the Polytechnic Faculty were installed, successfully ensuring that the majority of students, officials and the public in general carry out an adequate waste management. This indicates that educational action programmes should continue to be promoted in order to help raise environmental awareness and generate new ideas for the potential exploitation of materials.
