Abstract

The Cotopaxi volcano, in 2015 began a new eruptive process, the fall of ash created fear. The objective is to identify the communication channels to promote prevention in the workers of the Cotopaxi Metal Industry in the event of a possible eruption of thevolcano. A qualitative methodology was used with an exploratory research design with questions to managers and workers. Among the main findings it is shown that from the experience of 2015, the company has improved its contingency plan. Despite this, someworkers are unaware of the type of alert the volcano is in, making it necessary to locate an informative traffic light indicating the type of alert. In addition, it is important to educate the population with communication strategies to be prepared for a possible eruption. Hence the value of this investigation that seeks to safeguard the life of the population that lives or works in the area of influence of the colossus.
