Abstract

AbstractA procedure is presented for estimating the wind load acting on the Shimizu Super Highrise, which is based on results obtained from wind tunnel experiments. The force balance test and the two‐degree‐of‐freedom aeroelastic model test were performed. A considerable reduction in the dynamic wind force and moderate variations in the response for various wind directions could be obtained as a result of suppression of vortex shedding attributed to the effect produced by the alternate arrangement of different cross sections along the height of the building.
