Abstract

Using stochastic theory, the integrated intensity ratio of Raman lines to the total secondary radiation under resonant excitation is shown to correspond to the ratio of the fluorescence decay rate to the homogeneous bandwidth of the absorption spectrum. Excited-state lifetimes of organic molecules in solution estimated using this relation agree well with the available data.
