Abstract

A Method has been eIaborated for microprocessor-based control of tunnel kilns previously. The model is highly nonlinear in the state variables and, although, it is linear in the parameters, common linear statistical methods of inference cannot be Applied here . These properties made it possible to devise a numerical algorithm not requiring initial estimates. As the iteration process is rather sensitive to changes in the initial values and the china engineer has no numerical experience, it was necessary to provide a good initial estimate based on the measured dataAccording to our observations the new algorithm is very stable in a large domain of the state variables. The parameters have successfully been used for the simulation and control of tunnel kilns in several Hungarian china factories. Both new theoretical results and accumulated practical experience are reported here
