Abstract

Preliminary estimates of trawl codend selectivities for the European long-fin squid, Loligo forbesi (Cephalopoda: Loliginidae), were made following analyses of catch data obtained during annual fishing surveys of Faroese and Scottish waters involving three research vessels (1977-1993). For the standard survey, the trawl was fitted with a 75 mm diamond mesh codend. The estimated mean selection (mantle) lengths (L 50 ) for this species were 14.6, 13.9, and 14.9 cm, respectively.
