Abstract

In this work, thermal behavior and combustion properties of a coal dust of Pavlovskiy brown coal were studied. The investigation was focused on the estimation of time parameters of fine coal particle combustion using the data obtained during the experiments on the constructed laboratory-made setup. The advantage of the constructed laboratory setup is that the experimental conditions are as close as possible to the conditions of the existing boiler units. In such conditions a significant part of the heat flow in the combustion chamber is supplied to the fuel in the form of radiant energy, in contrast to many experimental installations where convection heating is occurred. Experimental research parameters were applied for theoretical and numerical investigation. Calculated time parameters, such as heating-up time, yield and burning time of volatile, and burning time of char were compared with experimental data. Preliminary analysis of our experimental results on combustion of fine coal particles demonstrates that empirical equations for simulation of time-depended coal combustion process can provide reasonable agreement with experimental data.
