Abstract

THE usefulness of activation analysis for the estimation in vivo of total body sodium, chlorine and calcium in the human subject has recently been demonstrated1. Because of the remarkable concentration of iodine in the thyroid gland, irradiation of this organ by thermal neutrons should make it possible to estimate the total iodine content. To study this possibility we have carried out experiments with sheep, where the thyroid iodine content is of the same order of magnitude as in man.
