Abstract

A solution is obtained for estimating the time of concentration for a diverging watershed. A comparison of concentration times for diverging and plane surfaces is made to examine the influence of the degree of divergence for a diverging watershed on the time of concentration. Assuming that the physical characteristics such as watershed length, slope, roughness and rainfall excess are the same, an expression of the ratio of the time of concentration for a diverging surface to that for a plane surface is derived. The expression is solved numerically, and evaluated graphically. The results can be used easily for practical purposes.
