Abstract

This paper is concerned with the use of a capture–recapture technique for estimating population size. As an example of its application, some estimates have been made of the number of polygons weakly embeddable in the square lattice. The results support the conclusion that the probability of initial ring closure varies inversely as nθ, where n is the ring size and θ = 11 / 16.
