Abstract

The critical-current density of the high-T/sub c/ oxide superconductor, YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-x/ (YBCO), has been measured changing the temperature down to liquid-nitrogen temperature (LNT) in order to estimate the adiabatic and cryogenic stabilities at LNT. In estimating the critical-current density, both four-terminal and magnetization measurements were made. The specific heat was also measured. The adiabatic stability was found to be much higher than that of conventional superconductors at liquid-helium temperature. The cryogenic stability, however, is found to be poor.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
