Abstract

Three records of 444 does of Common African and Alpine breeds were used to estimate repeatability of litter size. Effect of sire and dam breeds and parity on number of kids born (NKB) and gestation length (GL) was also tested. Repeatability of NKB was 0.061 ± 0.003. Repeatability calculated by regression of second and third kidding season based on first kidding season was 0.052 ± 0.003 and 0.043 ± 0.009 kids per doe season, respectively. Sire breed and parity affected ( P < 0.05) NKB, while dam breed did not affect ( P > 0.05) NKB. Gestation length was not ( P > 0.05) affected.
