Abstract

ABSTRACTThere is the proper phase relation between the incident and reflected wave trains. Therefore in the field which is subject to the influence of reflection, the correlation function between waves travelling in different directions does not necessarily vanish. In this paper, it is shown that when a long-crested and unidirectional incident wave train is reflected and travels in the opposite direction, the power spectra of both incident and reflected waves can be estimated from the records of temporal change of the water surface elevation at two positions on the assumption of the linear model of water waves. An example of application of this method to wind waves generated in a laboratory flume is also shown.
