Abstract

An inverse heat conduction procedure for estimating the unknown time-dependent heat flux at the base of functionally graded variable thickness annular fins using only the measured temperature at the tip of fin is presented. The heat conduction formulation is based on the non-Fourier heat transfer equation. The conjugate gradient method is employed for optimization process, and the incremental differential quadrature method is applied to solve the governing differential equations. The accuracy of the presented approach is examined by simulating the exact and noisy data through different examples. Good accuracy of the obtained results validates the presented approach.
