Abstract

Chemical analyses of 519 poultry carcasses, ranging from 475 to 3,679 g in weight, were statistically analyzed to ascertain whether fat contents could be estimated from DM data. The data included analyses of males and females, whole birds and eviscerated carcasses, sexually mature and immature birds, and young and old birds kept under various management systems and subjected to widely differing nutritional treatments.Regression slopes of the 15 sets of analyses were not significantly different from each other, this permitted a common regression to be fitted to all data. A high coefficient of determination (R2 = .953) indicated that the regression equation ŷ = −30.79 +1.22 x, where ŷ = fat content and x = DM, could be satisfactorily used to estimate fat content from DM data.
