Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of the characteristics of adaptive satellite infocommunication systems and contains the results of authors' research in this direction. The main purpose of these studies is to propose possible way for increasing the efficiency of satellite-based infocommunication video systems with adaptive modulation and channel coding, taking into account the features of algorithms that used in such type of systems and possible distortions when decoding at the MPEG video stream level. To implement this the simulation model of DVB-S2 system with adaptive encoding and modulation was developed in Matlab / Simulink mathematical simulation environment. As result of simulation, performance of the SNORE algorithm, recommended by the ETSI standard for the adaptive coding and modulation mode, was analyzed, possible ways of increasing its characteristics were proposed. The obtained results can be used during the technical maintenance and link planning in case of usage of DVB-S2 systems for infocommunication applications, as well as during further research aimed at increasing the efficiency of systems of such type.
