Abstract

Self-weight consolidation tests for the dredged soil obtained from Incheon harbour route were conducted to determine the initial dredged fill volume and the thickness of dredged fill soil, and also estimate the required time of self-weight consolidation with calculation of the final planned height of the dredged landfill site. The variations of the moisture content, void ratio, and ratio of volume with elapsed time after throwing in were estimated through Yano’s empirical equation. As a result, there is less variation in elements when the fine-grained soil content was low, similar to the behavior of the coefficient of sedimentated consolidation, Cs, and the highest variation is shown for the fine-grained soil content of more than 50%. The current method of determination of retention ratio according to the fine-grained soil content that could be modified with the consideration of volume changing due to the self-weight consolidation.
