Abstract

A method for analysing variations in activity pattern is presented. The method is applicable when the animals are subsequently active and resting, and the observer in the same manner is subsequently observing and resting. First, a method is given for estimating the expected lengths of activity periods in the case of constant expectation. The method is further generalized to deal with circadian activity pattern by combining the basic model with standard regression analysis.
