Abstract

THE problem of estimating the total surface area of the blood vessels in a cubic millimetre of tissue which arose in an examination of tumours1 is dealt with in this communication. First, the ideal case is examined in which all the necessary information is available and then the actual case is examined in which only limited information is available. The comparison leads to a reasonable approximation of the vessel surface area.
