Abstract

Noise from machinery in buildings is caused by a mixture of air-borne and structure-borne sound. Relations are given for the estimation of sound levels in rooms due to air-borne and structure-borne sound transmission. For air-borne noise well-known quantities can be used to describe the source strength and sound transmission. Comparable quantities are presented which can be used to describe the structure-borne source strength and transmission. Methods to determine all quantities are indicated and illustrated with some examples.
