Abstract
The accuracy of multiple prediction is crucial to successfully eliminating or suppressing multiples. Most multiple removal methods neglect the effects of 3D reflector geometry, which may lead to substantial error in the prediction process. This paper proposes an original approach to predict 3D reflector geometry using a nonlinear optimization method called very fast simulated annealing ( VFSA). We apply an NMO technique to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction parameters such as seafloor dip and water velocity. Both synthetic and real data examples have been used to demonstrate the effectiveness and the robustness of the process.
