Abstract
We consider the problem of estimating a random process defined along a one-dimensional track using measurements from a sensor which traverses this track. The effects of sensor motion and motion blur on the estimation problem are considered, and in the particular case of a linear model for the random process and deterministic sensor motion, these effects are analysed and discussed in detail. In this special case we also consider the problem of controlling the motion of the sensor in order to optimize some measure of the accuracy of our estimates along the track.
