Abstract

Abstract In order to understand the influence of the notch type on the working performance of the spool valve, CFD technique is adopted to simulate the flow field inside the spool valve; mathematic model for the movement of the spool is set up to analyze the dynamic response of the spool. The most common used 3 kinds of the notch geometry K, U, Vnotch are selected to be analyzed. The results show that: (1) there is least likely to be cavitating flow inside the spool valve with U-notch; (2) there is the largest discharge coefficient for the spool valve with V-notch which cause the actuator-cylinder rod moves quickest; (3) the flow forces are all trying to open the valve, the viscous forces must be considered as they have the same order of magnitude as flow forces. (4) The valve with K-notch response is quickest. The research in the paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the flow and dynamic response characteristics. The research method combining CFD simulation with MatLAB Simulink is available and will derive more precise results.
