Abstract

The Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CC/RVDF) is an intergovernmental body which advises the Codex Alimentarius Commission on all matters relating to veterinary drug residues. One of the primary objectives of the CC/RVDF is to elaborate maximum residue levels (MRLs) for veterinary drug residues in edible animal products. An important consideration in this process is the acceptability of Codex MRLs from a consumer safety point of view, i.e., having the assurance that Codex MRLs would not result in dietary exposure to residues that exceed the veterinary drug’s acceptable daily intake (ADI).
