Abstract
The influence of inescapable imperfections associated with fiber arrangement in the filament winding process on the burst pressure of a composite vessel is analyzed. Firstly, the influence of fiber packing, fiber spacing and fiber contiguity is analyzed through a two-scale analysis. Mechanical properties of the layers are estimated considering aforementioned parameters at the scale of micro and the burst pressure is estimated at the scale of macro. As the second approach, fiber-bundle crossovers and undulation arisen from filament winding process are also considered at the scale of meso. Thus, a multi-scale modeling is performed capturing micro, meso and macro scales.
