Abstract
Lund et al. (1) recently described the value of a geriatric assessment in predicting prognosis for 484 older adults (aged ≥70 years) with advanced cancer. Three prognostic models were generated and compared: a basic model using patient age, sex, cancer type and stage; a model using those basic measures plus Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) (2); and a third model using basic measures plus an additional 16 items from a geriatric assessment (GA). All models showed moderate discrimination for survival, (c-statistic 0.61, 0.62, and 0.63 respectively).
