Abstract

A model for estimating sunshine hours from some meteorological parameters was developed. An eleven year (1997 to 2007) period of relative humidity, maximum and minimum temperatures, rainfall and wind speed measured at Port Harcourt, Nigeria (Latitude 4°56’26.2’’N) was analyzed. The results of the correlations show that the four variable correlations with the highest value of R gives the best result when considering the error term Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The developed model can be used in estimating global solar radiation for Port Harcourt and other locations with similar climatic conditions. Key words: Global solar radiation, sunshine hours.
